Broken Tee Society — Event Bylaws
The Broken Tee Society (“BTS”) exists to bring golfers together through camaraderie, respect for the game, and spirited competition. These bylaws uphold fairness, community, and the integrity of competition at all BTS events. By entering, participants agree to abide by the following conditions of entry.
1) Handicaps
1.1 Verification. Players must provide an active USGA GHIN or WHS handicap.
1.2 Currency. Handicap records must include posted scores within the last 12 months.
1.3 Maximum Index. The maximum allowable index for competition is 18.0.
1.4 Competition Allowance. 85% of a player’s index will be used for Net competition. Players with an index above 18.0 will compete as 18.0.
1.5 No GHIN / Lapsed Index. Players without a current, verifiable index will compete as scratch (0.0).
2) Eligibility
2.1 Membership. All participants must be current members of the Broken Tee Society, except that spouses and children under 18 may participate when accompanied by a BTS member.
2.2 Premium-Only Events. Select events may be restricted to Premium Members only.
2.3 Professionals. Professional golfers (including PGA, LPGA, Korn Ferry, mini-tour, and teaching professionals) may compete if they are BTS members.
2.4 Prizes. Amateur and professional members are eligible for Gross and Net prizes unless otherwise specified in the event notice.
3) Scoring
3.1 Order of Results. Gross results are determined first; Gross winners are then removed from Net standings.
3.2 Official Platform. Golf Genius will serve as the official scoring platform when available.
3.3 Scorecards. If Golf Genius is not used, signed scorecards constitute the official record.
3.4 Championship Playoffs.
- Individual Stroke Play: Sudden-death playoff until a winner is determined.
- Better Ball (Two-Person): Alternate-shot playoff until a winner is determined.
The playoff hole will be determined and announced by a BTS staff member prior to the start of the playoff.
3.5 Loss of Daylight / Weather. If a playoff cannot be completed due to daylight or inclement weather, winners will be determined by USGA Scorecard Playoff procedures.
3.6 Secondary Ties. USGA Scorecard Playoff will determine 2nd and 3rd places.
4) Pace of Play
4.1 Target. Rounds are expected to finish in 4.5 hours or less.
4.2 Maximum Score. The maximum score on any hole is net double bogey. If your group is out of position relative to the group ahead, you are expected to pick up at net double bogey, record that score, and proceed to the next tee.
4.3 Enforcement. BTS or host-club staff may remind groups of pace expectations and direct them to adjust if necessary.
4.4 Ready Golf. If your group is behind position, you are expected to play ready golf until you have caught the group ahead.
5) Spirit of Competition & Conduct
BTS events are built on trust, respect, and the joy of competition. By entering, participants agree to:
5.1 Protect the Field. Play honestly and ensure that players in your group do the same.
5.2 Honor the Game. Maintain golf etiquette and BTS event standards at all times.
5.3 Uphold Camaraderie. Support the welcoming culture that defines BTS.
5.4 Alcohol/Drugs & Decorum. Behave in a way that reflects well on yourself, BTS, and the game we love.
5.5 Unbecoming Conduct. Unruly or unbecoming behavior may result in disciplinary action, including removal from the event and loss of eligibility for future BTS events.
6) Administration & Enforcement
6.1 Authority. BTS staff (and host-club officials, where applicable) are authorized to interpret and enforce these bylaws.
6.2 Remedies. Remedies may include warnings, penalty adjustments, disqualification, removal from the course, and/or suspension of eligibility for future BTS events, as appropriate.
6.3 Finality. All rulings by BTS for an event are final.
6.4 Amendments. BTS may amend these bylaws at any time; updates take effect upon posting to the BTS website or inclusion in the event notice.
7) Cancellation and Refund Policies
The event cancellation and refund policy for BTS events is as follows:
7.1 Cancellation Policies. Cancellation policies vary by event. Specific details are provided on each event’s landing page and in the tournament packet available in the Players Room.
7.2 Refunds.
- If you cancel more than 30 days before the event, you will receive a refund minus a 5% processing fee.
- If you cancel within 30 days of the event, a refund will only be issued if your spot can be filled. The 5% processing fee will still apply.
